Normal Work Hours and Days A normal work day consists of 10-12 hours possibly longer depending on workload. Hours and start time will vary depending on workload. Night shift work required as needed.

Summary:
The Concrete Journeyman is responsible for performing skilled concrete work, including placing, finishing, and repairing concrete structures and surfaces. This role requires advanced trade knowledge, the ability to interpret construction drawings, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The Journeyman works independently and as part of a crew to deliver high-quality workmanship on commercial, residential, and civil construction projects..

Essential Functions:
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Set forms for concrete structures, including footings, slabs, walls, curbs, sidewalks, and foundations.
  • Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
  • Place, level, and finish concrete using hand tools and power tools such as trowels, floats, screeds, and grinders.
  • Install rebar, mesh, and other reinforcement materials according to project requirements.
  • Perform concrete cutting, demolition, patching, and repair work.
  • Apply curing compounds, sealers, and surface treatments as needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean and safe manner.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Mentor and support apprentices or laborers as needed.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet project schedules and quality standards.
  • Dispose of garbage according to set policies and procedures
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
  • Report any damage immediately to supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of verifiable experience in concrete finishing or a related trade.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of concrete tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and manage time effectively.
  • Basic math skills to accurately calculate dimensions of forms and molds
Preferred:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • MSHA certification
  • Experience operating concrete pumps, power screeds, or laser-guided equipment.
  •  
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Advanced concrete placement and finishing skills
  • Knowledge of formwork systems
  • Ability to read, understand and implement project plans and documents
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ability to meet project schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing
